New Years Eve Dresses

New Years Eve is here, and that means lots of occasions and lots of dresses to wear to them. Finding a NYE party dress this year was a little more difficult, so here are some good choices that are perfect for the more casual day or a full blown cocktail attire:

Bad Planning- Amazon Prime is here to help

The Amazon Prime gift guide- So the number one thing to do if you are on a time crunch is GO TO THE MALL. But I understand that you might be in an area that it will just not work, or you might work a 12 hour day, or you might be taking an evening MBA class tomorrow, and catching a flight early in the morning. It. Happens. We get it.

So let me tell you Amazon Prime saved my life this holiday season. Number 1 traveling with presents is horrible.  To just have everything in the same place is amazing. Also it saves so much time from going to the mall!

Robe// I could live in this.

Men's Robe// PJs are perfect for Christmas.

Eye Palette// There is nothing practical about this, other than it is so fun.

Beer Brewing// For the guy that needs a fun hobby.

Pinnapple Cup//  This is for your trendy friend.

Heated Blanket// This is a life saver for a midwest winter!

Hostess Gift// Who can't use some more glassware? No one that is who.

Makeup Brushes// These stink to buy, these are a great gift for your gal pal.

Star Wars Waffle Maker// for all of the nerds in your life;)

Jewelry Organization// Get that then run to Nordstrom and pick up a necklace or this

Gifts For The Young Professional

The young professional. The person who is on track to be CEO (or put founder and CEO on their linkedin for their small business that is a net worth of zero ;) ) The person who is grinding during their 20s to rock it out the rest of their career.

These were some great gifts to make their lives a little easier, or just give the gift to the person that has everything!

Vacuum// Seriously the best gift to give someone. Plus no more vacuuming. That is a gift right there!

City Map// This is so cute! I want one so bad but unfortunately they do not have Des Moines!

White Elephant Gift Guide

Ahhhh gifts on gifts on gifts. I do not know if I like white elephant or secret Santa better. I think I like how wild white elephant can get and the trading can always get everyone worked up. So I think white elephant is easiest when you are with your best friends because everyone has similar interest. Things get a little hard when you have a handful of ages and people with different interest. (aka your whole family haha).

Blanket// This is hands down the best. I personally always do not have enough blankets in my apartment. (Which is saying something because I have a 1 bedroom) This is also great for college students and young professionals!

Candles// Everyone hates buying these, but they are always the best gift to give.

I FORGOT to put this on but for my white elephant gift I did an essential oil diffuser. A handful of my friends are obsessed with this, and it honestly makes your whole house smell sooooo good.

Kate Spade Mugs// This was the biggest hit at my families white elephant party a couple of years back. Plus it is the gift that keeps on giving.

Steamer// Okay this sounds lame, but can you honestly say that you do not want one of these? I mean you can't

Kitchen Gear// If you are a young professional this is the best thing to give and receive.

Make Up kit// I do not even have to explain this;)

Happy holidays!

Jord Wood Watch For The Holiday

As we all know, the year is slowly but surely wrapping up. 2017 was hands down wild from start to finish. It made up for how crazy 2016 was for sure! So this post is here to talk about two things the quote on the back of my Jord Wood Watch that I wear almost everyday, and then things that had to change this year.

So I love my Jord Wood Watch. I work with wood products almost on the daily is it’s always a little reminder of that. Due to the fact that this watch is a wood watch. Which I love how crisp and durable the watch it. Plus it is green which reminds me of my alma mater. Two very big chapters of my life!

Then on the back of the watch I got it engraved with the quote, “nothing changes if nothing changes” which was something I really had to take to heart this year. I knew I could not have another year like 2016 ever again, so there had to be some big changes taking place.

That is what I love about the Jord Wood Watches is you can always have a little note with you. Which is why it also would make the sweetest gift. (I mean my military boss has one so you know it’s a manly man’s watch also;) )

Any sort of basic jewelry that you can wear everyday is perfect for a little reminder throughout the day.

So speaking of this quote that I really to to heart this year, these are the things that changed this year and what I accomplished because of it! Also do you know how hard it is to brag about yourself? So hard. It is hard to talk about yourself.

1. I never have a “resolution” for the year but I always have a “focus” word for the year. That is so when I am faced with the fork in the road, I can go back to that word and reach that goal. For 2017 that word was “be bold”. Which was more, if you want it go for it. This really helped get me out of my shell and grow goals that I had been wanting to achieve.

2. I started a new job! I moved from Michigan to Iowa and took on a new roll I would have never in a million years thought I would be in Iowa, but I loved every minute of it.

3. I made my blog public! And it grew to be twice the size, AND we started a YouTube channel. I remember this one night in January, (A very big turning point for the year) in fact it was January 10th. I called my mother, and I was like should I talk about my blog to people or should I still keep it hidden. My mah said, "Don't you think if you are going to continue to do this, now would be the time to tell people about it" and so there we were. We made the blog public! Something also started on January 10th.

4. Something starting with Tuesday and Trivia and ending with new bae. Is that an achievement? I have no idea, but it was probably one of my favorite days from this past year, so I added it to the list.

5. I went to Houston to help my company out after the hurricane. It was crazy to see how much people were effected by the aftermath. I have never been near a natural disaster, so this was extremely eye opening to see first hand.

Overall, I love having my Jord Watch as a little reminder of what happened this year! You can get your own with a 25% discount here.

November 2017 Favorites

Hello! Happy December! And we are still wrapping up November. BECAUSE we here at Just Around The Neighborhood are so bad at staying up to date with things! Over the month of November was filled with friends and family. Going home for a half a week was the most little slice of paradise.

I can not wait to go home FOR A WHOLE WEEK in December. Seriously, to just hang out for a week sounds like a the best thing since sliced bread. It was so funny because this whole year I thought I would only have 1 or 2 days at Christmas, but I was a gatherer with my vacation days, so it all worked out!

Anyways here is everything that got me through the month of November. Unfortunately, you can not link roller food from QT but that was really the MVP for the month.

Eye Shadow// I am a creature of habit, so getting this palette was a great way to mix things up.

Planner// As the year ending soon, so is my planner. I hate not having the next month on hand, but I realized how much I need it.

Face Mask// Hands down the best way to refresh.

Gold Nail Polish// I have been having a hard time finding a nail polish that will last a long time. This is the polish for that, it also is extremely festive for the holidays. (This is the color)

Over the Knee Boots// These make everything look put together, plus they give you a little height without making it hard to walk in.

RXBAR// I always feel that the less the ingredients the better the food is for you. I love that it has 12g of protein and only 5 ingredients.

Weekly Roundup

Happy Tuesday! Yesterday was a life round up, today is a link round up. So I send memes back and forth with my sister and my college best friend. BUT I can only send them so much, so these were some of my favorites from the month.

Also this photos is a photo of Des Moines. I took an etiquette class last week and it was a stunning view! ALSO last thing from the month. I CAN NOT STOP EATING OLIVES. So I got into making my own pizza. I know, bad. My limit is 1 every other week. BUT because I started making my own I thought it was okay to get it once, MAYBE even twice a week.

It is for sure a budget friendly move, however not healthy what so ever. Whatever, back to what this conversation started from. Olives are my new obsession. I put it on pizza, sandwiches, salads, and olive hummus is amazing! If any of you have any amazing recipes that olives are just a great ingredient in, HIT A SISTER UP! I'm obsessed and I want to keep this going.

I have watched this 200 times// No one else enjoys this as much as me, but this kid looks like he is in 7th Heaven.

Lets Talk Boundaries// This could have been a little extreme, but I think boundaries are extremely important to have in every type of relationship. I think the most respectful thing to give someone is your full attention. So if I am with someone in person, I am not going my phone. Which means I can not answer any type of notification.

In case you did not know I am a fan of bumble *wink wink wink*// But I mean who does not want to creep on a great party!

20% Code// This is great for budget friendly designer stuff as well as reusing fashion!

Favorite Blazer for Work//

Favorite Blogger//  This was such great advice. My mom always told me always ask for forgiveness before permission. which was great growing up! But it is so hard to fall into the trap that "If this happens I can do this' and this is too great for that!

Being Smart// Relationships are tricky, but it is good to know what is okay and not okay.

This Top// For Holiday Parties

Love this// One of my favorite facebook pages.

I do not want to feel like this over the top...// This was so funny though

Oh my gosh this makeup// Seriously such a sucker and can not wait to see their starry night one.

Love this for a holiday gift//

Happy Holiday Season;)//

How some holiday meetings feel!

Overall such a great week! Everyone rock it out the rest of the week!

November Round Up

I am trying to get into a little more ~*lifestyle*~, so here is my monthly recap of November. November was such a fun month. The big highlights were going to friendsgiving! We brought a salad, it was a huge hit;)
Then the big item for the month was HEADING HOME TO MICHIGAN. On Wednesday my mom held a little cocktail party of her side of the family. It was fun to see everyone and have everyone share their stories from the last time we saw them. That was hands down the most fun and latest night.

Then one of my favorite things about being at my parents house, is they have pillow top mattresses, with a memory foam topper on their beds. It is hands down the most comfy thing in the world. So that week I got plenty of sleep!

We woke up and had breakfast together. Then headed to my cousins house to watch the Lions loose (a family tradition). Then after that we headed back to my house to have a small little dinner with my fam. I got pulled into watching Trains, Planes, and Automobiles (I'm not a big movie person, and I would rather have chatted with my fam than just sit in the same room as them)

Then for Friday, I could not sucker anyone to hang out with me except my brother (And bae) so we all headed down to Campus Martius in Detroit to check out the big tree and to go ice skating (Also snag a brew).

This was the highlight of the week. Seriously, we had so much fun. We were probably the oldest people there, but it was a great time. The weather was great and I was actually HOT ice skating in MICHIGAN.

So after that we visited my Dad's side of the fam then headed back to see A's fam! There was a lot a lot of family! With A's fam we cut down a real live tree! We went to a tree farm, which I have never been to one, cut it down, and then BAM! We had a Christmas tree!

We wrapped up the Michigan trip and headed back to Des Moines. When I got back, I had a meet and greet at Gordmans which was so fun!

Fall into Place

Happy December! Just Around The Neighborhood has a big surprise coming up this this month! But before winter hits, I thought I would show my favorite fall sweater. I love a good sweater. I am kind of what I would classify as "a high strung lazy person" so I like to look put together, but I do not actually like to put for the effort to look over the top nice.

That is why I love sweaters. It is practically wearing a sweatshirt! So Jcrew has this one about 5 holiday seasons ago, and I fell in love with it. Actually I brought home a catalog, and my mom saw it. She was said "This sweater is YOU". and I have not been able to get rid of it since.

I always wear this around the holiday season, and trust me this sweater has gone through many a Mario cart  tournaments.

Gal Gift Guide

Gifts for your gal pals! If you saw my last post, gals are a lot easier to buy for than a significant other. I also posted some extra options at different price points. So lets just dive right into this.

Mule Cups// I got mason jar cups for my birthday and that was AMAZING! So some good cup ware you can not go wrong with it.

Necklace// I linked both bold jewelry and dainty jewelry depending on what the person's preference is. I love a good bold necklace, but I always find myself always wearing something dainty.

Eye Palette// Good quality make up is the best. Everyone hates buying it but it is so great to get. Tarte is a good go to if you do not know what the person wears, PLUS you can never go wrong with an urban decay naked palette.

Instax// This was hands down the best gift I have ever gotten. I knew I wanted one, but I also knew I would never buy one for myself. It is so fun to have the stuff print off instantly.

Cozy PJs// Christmas means PJs. My friends were joking that the only thing I would ever want to do is hang out in my PJs all day, have someone make my food for me, and never leave unless I am taking blog photos. That was over dramatic, but I am guilty of wanting to stay in my PJs all the time, so you have to make them cute!

Bag// This is something I hate buy for myself, but is a good gift to give. You have to be in tune with the person's style, but everyone could use another going out bag.

1/4 Zip// These were the best invention ever. They are so comfy, its like wearing a sweatshirt, but it looks nice on everyone. I don't have a good reason for this one other than everyone wants one. (Trust me, I'm a blogger)

Flannel// I got this one year for Christmas and I probably wear it every other week at work. Plus its like wearing PJs that are acceptable.  (It took me a solid 8 minutes to find the correct spelling of acceptable)

Blazer// Perfect for your young professional gal pals!

Lilly Pulitzer// There are plenty of things from every price point that will be a good gift. I am all color all the time and my sister is all dark and stormy colors and we both love anything from the trinkets to the clothes of this brand. (Just make sure the gal is a little more on the preppy side)

Boots// My brother and my mom usually get me boots every year and it is hands down the gift that keeps on giving.  You can wear them the rest of the season, and then back again in the fall!
