July Favorites

July was a straight blur. I honestly do not know how it went by so fast. I pretty much got settled into living in South Carolina. I have this weird that that I think I know where I am, and how to get back to my apartment so I refuse to use the GPS. I end up getting lost more than any human should. I have found a lot of little hidden gems though. There is a huge art population in Columbia, so I will have to check that out soon.

THIS post is not about what I will be doing, it is about what I did in July. I went on a last second trip to myrtle beach. I went tubing, which I have found out going from point A to point B on a tube is not my thing. Swimming? Yes. Staying in a river for 5 hours? No.

Other than that settling in is going great. It is such a small bubble being down here, it almost feels like a summer camp. Here is everything that kept me together all month.

1. Nest Candle// I am a sucker for a good candle. This cedar leaf lavender one from nest is amazing. It has the sweet lavender, but more of a musk smell with the cedar leaf.
2. Halter Dresses// I have the body of a 12 year old boy, so I take what I can get on flattering cuts. I love the halter that shows off the shoulders.
3. Nyx Embellishment Lipstick// This lipstick is everything.  I think this is my holy grail lipstick color. This looks perfect with any black or neutral color outfit. I feel like Kilie Jenner with the lip color on.
4. Mumford and Sons// I am so late to the game on this one. I can not stop listening to this album. I feel like the whole album is about growing up and leaving behind some people. I love just smoke I think I have listened to it on repeat probably a million times. The best lines, "Tell my thoughts to resign And lift you from my mind" and "Thought we were done Young love would keep us young". Also The Wolf, Wilder minds, and Ditmas are amazing.
5. Stripe Shirts// For once in my life I thought it was a great idea to under pack for something. That something just so happened to be for 3 months. I have no clothes. I did bring 3 cocktail dresses though. because priorities, am I right? This has led me to have to buy some clothes. The problem is there are almost no clothing options here. I have tried to spend money and can not. I have bought a lot of stripe shirts on sale and that has been my go to outfit lately.
6. Monogram necklace// This was the best graduation gift ever given to me. Yes, the cash in June was amazing. That got me from point A to point B comfortably. The monogrammed necklace was way too kind and I wear it almost everyday and it will always remind me of graduating.
7. Pastel Trench// I have not been wearing this what so ever during the month of July. However, I am looking for one for my trip to Europe. I want one with a hood, so I am not sure how fashion forward that would be. Send options if you find them

Swim Workout

I got back into working out. Lets all take a pause let this sink in, no more just laying around and enjoying life. You remember how Kendall Jenner took a couple of month long break from dieting and exercise after the Victoria Secret fashion show? That is exactly what I did after running the Army 10 miler. This was a much needed break. Going from working out twice a day 5 to 6 days a week to not at all was such a change.

Now it is time to strap on my boots and get back at it. I am currently not training for anything! For once in my life I am working out solely to stay healthy and toned. It is for sure a different mindset. Hopefully you can join me on this fitness journey. Here is a fun swimming work out.

Work, Work, Work, Work, Work

This summer I am in an army uniform, HOWEVER I have been looking at slowly transforming my personal wardrobe to a more business professional look. Working during the summer is always a blur for me. It ends up work is just a filler for mini weekend vacations. Here are some of my favorite pieces for work.

Southern Efficiency

South Carolina is a big adjustment. Life is slow, and more laid back here. There is so much to do. I am so surprised by the amount of activities to do down here. There is shopping, restaurants, and the great outdoors. There are about a half a dozen little cities at every corner. I was able to make it out to the Myrtle Beach. I have seen more sun for the past month than I have the whole time I was in Michigan.

I was lucky to get a bit of sun before the storms came in at the beach!

One of the people I went with, had a secret skill of picking out the best restaurant. We went to this burger/ sushi place. Which to me sounded so weird. I thought it would be horrible, but honestly done of the best casual dining places I have ever been to. I did not get sushi, I was starving so I got a burger. It was called, The Leonaro Da Vinci. Seriously the best burger I have probably ever had. It was a falafel, basically deep fried chickpea. It was life changing. Because we were at the beach everyone was wearing sweats. I ordered a Lemongrass Elderflower martini. I felt like such a poser drinking it in running shorts. (I know glamorous.) Check this burger out. The place was called Art, and you need to go to it if you are at Mytle Beach.

Nordstrom Sale

The famous Nordstrom Sale is going on. I am currently pinching every penny for my trip to Europe, but I may have to pick up this romper. I am in LOVE. I saw this romper and immediately the only thing I could think was this is perfect. I don't know if it is too trendy/youthful for me. It looks great, it kind of reminds me of a Gossip Girl uniform. Don't forget to check out the rest of the sale.

First Apartment

Congrats you are moving to your first apartment! It is not as glamours as you have it thought out to be, BUT you do not live with your parents so it can not be all that bad! Personally for me, being an upperclassman in college everyone moves off campus. There are so many perks to living off campus. No more RAs, which can either be good or bad.

Once my parents were helping me unload something into my apartment leaving the door open. Then all of a sudden a dog walks in. No big deal, right? Well, following the dog was half of the hockey team... with 40 ounces of beer taped to both of their hands.

My dad thought this was great, he asked the guys loads of questions, and to this day talks about how he too wants to do this. I just stood there mortified. Oh the joys of being in your own place!

Everyone Gets Annoyed with their roommate// That means your roommate will probably get annoyed with you too. Be patient with everyone, and talk about issues you might be having.

Bills// Unless utilities are included just remember that you will probably be adding on an extra 100 dollars a month in bills. Also, apartment needs are expensive. Who knew furniture could cost so much!

Living with friends// This is either so much better or worse for a friendship. If keep boundaries and make sure people have their privacy, treat them like roommates during the week, and friends during the weekend you should be fine.

Noise// College apartments are so loud. There are no RAs to keep the noise to a minimum be aware.

Momma Mia

I made this blog so I could practice Photoshop and graphic design (and now writing because my style is horrible). I am no professional what so ever, but it is a definitely a work in progress. That being said, I mostly keep my blog post as graphics to get the practice. However, I could not pass this picture up. This is my goddess of a mother, and cooler than I will ever be.

Note: my mom did not know the celeb that she is, so she had no clue that this interview took place.
What advice would you give yourself at the age of 21?
Only Say yes if you want to really do it, and if you say yes, give it your all!

( I love this advice. This can be applied to life, career, family, dating. If you do not want it all do not do it at all.)

What is the best part about being a mom?
The unconditional love from the dog. (She is not kidding). Then she made a comment about me not being pregnate out of wedlock, but that was too inappropriate to share.

Warm Regards

In case you were unaware, the south is hot.  Hot as in, you walk out to your car in the parking lot and the is sweat dripping down your back. Luckily the south appreciates air conditioning and keeps every building at a cool 65 degrees. You go from burning to freezing in a matter of minutes. It makes getting ready in the morning interesting. Here are some of the best summer accessories that keep you sweat free, and cool.

5 Best Mascaras

I have tried so many mascaras and they can either be a real hit, or a miss. It is such a stab in the heart when you get one that is horrible. I do not have any crazy makeup tips, but I do have recommendations for an easy coat on your eyelashes.
Cover Girl/My go to mascara that I always end up coming back to is Cover girl's lash blast. I think this is everyone's fan favorite.
Benefit//I heard about They're real from my sister. This seriously makes you look like you are wearing fake lashes.
Sephora// This Sephora  mascara is a hit or miss for some people. I love it because I love layering on my mascara, but if you have problems with clumping this one is not for you.
Too Faced// This Too Faced one will give major volume without going over the top.
Urban Decay // Lastly, I love this Urban Decay one that goes with every other mascara, I keep this one in my bag.

The Good Book Club: July

I think being financially independent is the biggest step a person can take into adulthood in my opinion. I think it is so important to know what you are doing with your money, and to know where you should put it. There is so much to know! Everyone knows what of your income 50% should be for spending, 30% should be for living (bills and housing), and 20% should be saved.
What people tend to not know is where should that 20% go? 401k? Roth IRA? Bank Account? Vacation Fund? That is why I looked into the book Rich Bitch Nicole Lapin breaks it down for everything you want out of life, and a way that you can understand. Perfect for all of those new post-grad babies!

June Favorites

Summer officially started in June! I finally got to break out the shorts (okay, I was wearing a sweatshirt with them). I only made one trip up north this summer, but it was totally worth it. I got to see my sister graduate, I had my graduation party, and I got to see family and friends before I made it to South Carolina!

The month of June was 50% crazy busy and 50% relaxing. Here is everything that got me through the month.

One// Lot of relaxing meant, lots of wearing PJs and robes. I love my Jcrew linen robe, but this is so so cozy.

Two// Off the shoulder shirts are everywhere, and I jumped on that train.

Three// This under eye pep start from clique is amazing. It feels like you are wearing a cold press on your face.

Four// This is my biggest guilty pleasure. I think I watched this whole season in one week.

Five// I am not a contourer what so ever. I try to stay up on the trends, but lately I feel like beauty trends just recently got more difficult. I did like this kit. I normally gravitate towards powders, but the cream was a great option as well. Also this palette is perfect for those with the fairest of them all of the skin tones. #PaleIsTheNewTan

Six// This foundation brush is a game changer. I throw my makeup on. Sometimes it is so bad that I get in my car and there are just streaks everywhere. This brush gives such a great finish, and even the laziest of people can look airbrushed.

Seven// These Shorts.  When I was younger I had shorts that looked exactly like these. (A little more appropriate for a four year old). I wore them to death. I think I wore them every day for months. They had little embroidered pink flowers. I thought I was a rock star. I love this revamped look.

Eight// I never wear a swimsuit. I probably wear a swim suit 7 times a year tops. I am also not one for patterns, but I love a pattered swimsuit.

Nine// I love a good slide on shoe, and these are great for running errands.

I Moved!

For the next three months I am working in South Carolina! It is crazy being below the Mason-Dixion line again. It is kind of placid being down here. Not having your village with you at all times if definitely a change. It is different, but I am getting a lot of things done that I was putting off for some time now.

Exploring a new city is always an adventure. My brother came down from out of town, and we went to this cute restaurant called, Bourbon. I got the Debris Po'boy, it was basically shredded beef on biscuits and gravy. (So Southern)

From the restaurant we went to the South Carolina State museum.  It was fun to spend the afternoon at, however it was not anything special.

Red, White, and Navy

My favorite color combo to wear is red, navy, and white. So what a fun holiday to break out those colors. Here is some inspiration for this weekend!
