wanderlust

Apparently I am really on a traveling kick. Although I have no big trips planned, I wish I did. Almost every time I get an opportunity to travel I end up last minute not being able to. Although I have serious wanderlust, here is what I would be bringing all of my travel essentials in.

Summer Travel

Summer is all about the traveling. I unfortunately will for most of the summer be stuck in the south, I will be taking a couple of trips here and there. For those lucky enough to be traveling the world this summer here is what I would bring.

May 2015 Favorites

The whole month of May feels like a lifetime. I can not even believe everything that fit into this month. It started with a BBQ with friends, parties to celebrate before finals, then of course finals week happened. We said bye to the seniors, I moved back to Detroit, started my internship, I have already gone up north for the first time of the season, and I have visited MSU. This month has been jammed packed.

Over memorial day weekend I visited 5 cities in 4 days. It was crazy, I loved it, but my wallet did not. I can not even count up the minutes I was in the car (it was a lot), but the rides were nice. The whole entire state of Michigan smells like lilacs right now, and I am not complaining. Also, it helped to have a good Spotify playlist to get through the drive. Here is everything that helped me get through the week.

|Lilly Pulitzer bedding| It is summer time, so it is time to break out the lilly. ALL off the lilly. This bedding is so cute to brighten any room. If you are like me and can not do any interior designing for the life of you. (Yes my dad and guys friends make fun of my room decorations, they are that bad) then you need all the help you can get. This bed spread will be sure to help even the most inferior interior designers.

|Kendra Scott Key Chain| I have this weird habit, where I lose my keys constantly. (Crazy, right?!) I have found that if you add some bulk to your keys it is harder to lose. I adore this key chain. Plus the pink makes it hard to lose in your tote.

|Essie in the Cab-ana| I do not think it is a secret that I am obsessed with nail polish. This is the perfect blue for your toes during sandal season. I have been wearing this non-stop all of May.

|Water Color Lip Gloss| I am obsessed with this lip gloss kit. The color are so fun to look at, and actually look great on. Plus I am a huge fan of consumerism and the packaging is to die for.

|LORAC Eyeliner| I am the biggest fan of elf's pen eyeliner, but this comes close. The pen tip is so precise, and the black is as black as you can get. I have never been able to do a cat eye UNTIL this eyeliner.

|Two-piece Sets| Because I started back at work I am obsessed with pencil skirts. If you add a cute little crop top to the mix, then it is the perfect out fit for going out.

Dig in Your Heels

It is intern season, and you know what that means? Your wardrobe drastically changes from leggings, tennis shoes, and sprite shirts to actually looking like a productive member of society. My personal favorite outfit is a loose button down paired with a pencil skirt (they do not fly up in the wind), and some nude wedges. You can just throw that on and run out the door.

Most of my outfits need to be functional because I walk a couple of city blocks to get to work, add the falling apart Michigan roads and that is just a recipe for disaster. So I try to make the outfits as easy as possible. Here are my go-tos

Shinola in Detroit

During the summer I spend most of my time commuting to Detroit or in the city itself. This is my third summer in Detroit all I can say is that the city has changed so much. The first summer I was there, the city was pretty bare. I felt safe, but there really was not much to see. I saw some future plans for the city and thought that it would be cool if the plans were ever implemented

The second summer I was in Detroit, you could really see everything coming together. There were little shops opening here and there, and new and upcoming restaurants were popping up. There still was not anything that I saw would draw me in for a weekend getaway.

Now, its my third summer in Detroit, and there is SO MUCH I want to do. There are shops popping up everywhere. I can not even count the number of coffee shops I want to try. There are so many places I want to explore which leads us to Shinola.
Shinola is a Detroit made luxury watch. The watches are extraordinary. I love how Detroit based the company is, and watches is not all the company makes. They make a handful of other leather goods and weirdly enough bicycles. Shinola has been know to be quoted saying, "If we could make the best toaster in the world we would make toasters". Everything about this company is in Detroit from beginning to finish.
Here are some of the watches that Shinola makes. It was funny that last year the store looked so empty, and now there store is over flowing with their products.
You can watch some of the products being made right in the store.
The store also lets some other small business's use the space to give a helping hand. (in a true Detroit spirit)
Oh did I mention there is also a coffee shop in the store? This is the little sitting area.
Yes all of these pictures are of ONE store. There is so much going on!
Just before you thought Detroit could get any cooler there are SHINOLA street clocks.

Workout Shorts

There is a lot of black in this, but lets be real. Black workout clothes are the best. They hide the sweat, and I always feel like I am training for the hunger games when I'm in an all black workout outfit. Here are my favorite picks for the summer running shorts.

Detroit's Summer 2015 To-do List: Restaurant Edition

1236 Michigan Ave.

I am the biggest fan of breakfast foods. This place is compleatly dedicated to bagels, so I will need to check this place out this summer.

14409 E Jefferson Ave

I am a sucker for a good coffee shop. I do not think anything will top the lavender mocha form Grand River Coffee, but there is always hope in trying to find it. This place specializes in coffee (of course) and other vegan creations. My quest is to check out their kale cake.

2015 Michigan Ave

Grabbing brunch from here sounds amazing. I will for sure be checking out their chicken and waffles

1500 Woodward Ave

Grab a glass of organic wine from Wright & Company. This place looks a little fancier, but I love how in tune to Detroit this place looks.

Café 78
4454 Woodward Ave

I have been wanting to go here for FOREVER. This place looks amazing.

Jolly Pumpkin Pizzeria and Brewery Detroit
441 West Canfield #9

The name is hilarious, and I love that all of the beers are from Michigan.
