New Years Eve Three Ways

Where did 2014 even go? I think this year was simultaneously the worst and best year of my life. So much happened and that is why I am so happy to celebrate its ending and seeing 2015 come in, in full swing. This is what I will be celebrating in/ what I would be celebrating in.

Going Out// I love this dress's cut so much, and I typically do not like body con dresses but this one is great. I paired this with a bold berry lip that will stand out in pictures. I will be wearing something similar to this for the big night.

Hanging Out// If you are going to be going out to dinner or hanging out with a few friends this is cute. I also love the length of the skirt and you do not have to worry about how you sit. I also put this outfit with a natural eye that is not too high maintenance.

Staying In// If you are just hanging at home, grab a movie and just sit back and relax. (I am a fan of New Year's Eve. )

But Once a Year

I am not the biggest fan of Christmas music what so ever, but I do like to listen to it on Christmas Eve. Here is my playlist, that is not too old school.

:::In a Holidaze Over these Nail Colors:::

I can only really wear nail polish on breaks because of uniform regulations so whenever I am home for the breaks I for sure play up the nail polish game. My favorite brands are OPI and Essie because they last the longest. Here are my favorite colors for the holidays. I like colors that do not scream red and green but rather colors that can match those colors.

:::Don't Lose Sleep Over It:::

My favorite tradition of the Christmas Holiday season is that fact that I always get new PJs on Christmas Eve. Right after all of the relatives leave my immediate family  gets together and we all get new PJs. Here are some of my favorite sets and some little trinkets to go with it.

:::It's in The Bag:::

My favorite post are for sure this months favorites and of course what is in my bag post. It is so fun to see what people have to carry around from day to day to keep them sane. Here is what I tote around.

|The Bag| This is hands down my favorite tote bag to date. I love the color, it is just dark enough not to show dirt. It is also big enough to fit my laptop, but small enough for day to day wear.

|Water Bottle| Between workouts and chugging coffee I am always dehydrated. I would honestly die without a water bottle. Plus this water bottle comes in so many colors its fun to carry around.

|Planner| I am already the most disorganized person on the planet, so this is why I need to have dates in order. This planner is so helpful and there are so many views to look at to be as organized as possible.

|Chapstick| I think this goes back to the whole coffee and being dehydrated thing. My lips are always chapped and this really helps out.

|Snacks| Honestly the only thing that motivates me for anything is if I allow myself to snack while I am there. Plus, cliff bars are my favorite snacks so I always carry a couple where ever I go.

|Sun Glasses| These are just a must, whenever the Michigan sun does come out it is blinding to out sensitive eyes that never see it. Plus I love the blue color, they make a statement but still act like a neutral.

New Year, New Dress!

New Years Eve is just around the corner, and as 2014 comes to a close that means its time to start hunting for a NYE dress. Personally I feel like NYE is time for either a dark dress or tons of sparkles. (When can you get away with sparkles other than when you were 12?) I have spent a couple of days searching for the perfect dress and here is what I have whittled my options down to.

2015's Color of the Year

This sounds dumb, but my favorite thing is colors. I love to look at them, I love seeing how different colors can be paired together, and I love how they can be associated with different feelings. 2014's color of the year was orchid and it was chosen because of Kate Middleton and Michelle Obama's outfit choices. This year was a little more of a surprise. The color is Marsala, and the second I saw it all I could think of is, lipstick color. It is so pretty and it can look great with so many other colors. These are some of my favorite marsala picks:

:::Finally Finals:::

Its the most wonderful time of the year again. It is finals time, so that means chugging anything with caffeine in it, showers are a luxury, and hats are your best friend. This is the time of of year where you get 99% of the stress for 1% of your school time. Even though what you wear is your least concern here are some effortless ideas to keep you focused on your studies and comfortable.

I would say that I only wear this on exam days but I pretty much wear this once a week. However this is the perfect outfit to throw on for a 7:45am when you need to power walk across campus.

For some reason the last week of school is when a 100 last minute meetings pop-up. If it is a meeting with a professor or group project it it good to look semi decent, but still be able to be comfy and study ready. Also this shawl acts as a jacket or if you get chilly in the library it is essentially a blanket.

And at last everyone's favorite end of the year activity, the group project presentation. You have to look decent, but nothing over the top. So here is just a quick outfit to throw on and rock your prezi.

Urban Decay: Naked on the Run Review

I am the biggest sucker when it comes to makeup palettes. I think with my first ever Ulta gift card I actually bought one of the benefit Christmas palettes (This is eons ago) I love the concept of just having everything you need makeup wise in one palette. The idea of this On The Run Palette is great especially for people in high school, if you use public transportation/ carpool to work, or if you travel a lot. I however am none of those I am a college student so I have breaks throughout the day and all of my stuff pretty much stays stationary. I love the idea of this, but here is every detail about what I thought.
Perversion Mascara: This is the run of the mill mascara. It is a nice travel size and ready to use.

24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil: Again basic black eyeliner, It works and is the right size.

Stag Naked Lipgloss: I am not a fan of this color. It is more brown, which reminds  me of what was in style for my high school prom. Also there are little sparkles in it, so it reminds me of the back in middle school when everything was sparkle or die. Or so free lip gloss you get with purchase.

Eye Shadow Colors: These colors were a little too dark for my taste. They would be good going out colors, but nothing I would wear for the day time. I love the rose gold color, that would be fun to add a pop of color without straying form brown. I also like how they put in an extra large highlighter.

Bronzer/Blush: I wish Urban did pop in inserts where you could pick your colors. The bronzer is too orange/red for my skin stone. (I stick to purple undertones). Also the blush is way too pink, I would not wear it unless I was trying to look like Nicki Minaj.

Overall I think Urban Decay did a great job, I just wish they had more color options! You can buy your own (here)

November 2014 favorites

WHO IS SURPRISED- A week late on getting November Favorites out. I have been out for a while, but in my defenses I had finals last week, so I am going to let it slide. I am sad to see November go. Michigan had its first snow fall (It was horrible), Thanksgiving came and went, and the end was filled with final exams. The best thing about November was the shopping and great deals- here were my favorites.

Kendra Scott Elisa Drusy Pendant Necklace| I am all for the statement necklaces and in my book it is the bigger the better, however I fell in love with this necklace this month. I love the grey color and it is not an overbearing necklace. I rarely wear necklaces for everyday wear and this was casual enough to wear to class or meetings, but I could also wear it with busier dresses.

Bath & Bodyworks Winter Candle|  This year I got really into candles, I think mainly because they were not allowed in the dorms (Are we 2nd graders who can not handle fire?). I am constantly burning candles in my apartment. It gives me a little more incentive  to study or write a paper. This candle scent is festive without screaming that its Christmas time.

Nars Brigitt Lipstick| I love this lipstick one part that it is my name (Spelt wrong but still). The other part that it is a easy nude to pull off. I wore this color all through November.

Essie Penny Talk| For the record, I hate rose gold. This color was a nice pink color thought without screaming, oh look at my Barbie nails. I also found that this color was festive without being to Christmasey.(I feel like this post is turning out to be: how to care without caring).

Pillsbury Peppermint Sugar Cookie| My go to choice for desert will always be cookies. And of course this is cookie season. My mom always makes homemade cookies, so when I am away at school I always buy premade dough. (She would kill me if she knew). This stuff is like crack. If you like peppermint bark you will love this stuff.

Tart Gift Set| So you actually can not buy this online anymore. You can probably still buy this in stores. I did not actually buy this, but IT IS SUCH A GOOD DEAL! I promise if you got your sister, or make-up guru best friend this for the holidays they would love it. Or you could just send it my way and I would enjoy it just as much.

4 Products to Clear Skin

I have had a constant battle with my skin. I think I have tried every single thing out there and this is what I have found that works best for me:
FC5 toner and cleanser: This cleanser is amazing. It does not dry out your skin, but you can tell that it helps with preventing oil. Also I would not use this right before a big event because if defensively brings out the oil so you are stuck with some white heads for a while.

Clinique clarifying lotion Toner: True life: I have no clue what toner is, but this does wonders to my skin. I have always been a big Clinique fan and onetime I was at the counter and the lady just kept handing me products and was like "YOU NEED TO TRY THESE" so being peer pressured I tried it and I have not looked back since.

Clean and Clear Dual Action Moisturizer: If you are going to moisturize you might as well be killing two birds with one stone. I have gone through so many bottles of this it is not even funny. The only thing I wish it had is an SPF.

Feeling Beautiful Cucumber Facial Peel-Off Mask: I use this every once in a while, and I feel like you can see the dirt being peeled off (gross, right?) It also smells amazing.

Manners Matter: Maintaining a Professional Email

I feel like its so hard to keep track what is okay and not in electronic communications. Here are some tips that help keep me in line and professional when reaching out to someone over email.

The Name: Your email name should have your name in it, and it should be professional. Something like "Fuzzybear" or a funny pun is probably not the best thing you need when you are emailing a boss or a professor.

Signature: Having a signature makes you email look professional and has additional information if the person needs to reach you via a different medium. This is what mine looks like:

Jane A. Doe
JaneDoe@gmail.com
XYZ University
Phone number

Timely: Under no circumstance should emails be answered more than 24 hours. Try to email someone back in the same business day even if you have to reply, "I do not know the answer, but I will try to figure it out".

Short and Concise: No one wants to read a novel. Get straight to the point, and bullet points are always a plus.

This Thursday's ING's

These are just the random things I have been doING with my spare time. I feel like I always have some kind of finding that I want to share, so I might as well share it here!

Photographing// I love East Lansing in the fall. Almost ever time I walk outside I have to take a picture. It stinks that this is slowly coming to a close. It started snowing today.

Drinking// I have never been a tea drinker until this summer when I was introduced to yogi tea. I tried the berry detox and fell in love, now I always have 3 or more flavors stocked up in my apartment. I am a huge of anything lavender flavored (Still on the hunt for lavender ice cream) so the anti-stress tea is amazing. Its interesting to read the ingredients and see how they work the way they do.

Reading// I hate to admit it, but I love everything written by John Green. His novels are so cheesy and high school, but I can not help it. I am currently reading Paper Towns before the movie comes out and it keeps me guessing what is going to happen at every corner.

Listening// This list should just be turned into Bridgette's guilty pleasures. This list is making me look like a 12 year old girl. However, I can not stop listening to Taylor Swift's new album 1989. This girl is a marketing genius. I have not bought an album since Aaron Carter, so no wonder her sales are going through the roof.

Watching// I can not stop watching American Horror Story. This weekend I went home to "get stuff done" and I watched the whole new season of American Horror Story. The only thing with this show is that I can not get over is what  Evan Peters looked like from sleep over back in the day (here)

Shopping// I have a few skills and one of them is finding random online boutiques. This store has so many unique pieces. Its a little more expensive than say, forever 21, tobi, or H&M, but their stuff is still reasonably priced. I would say these pieces are a mix between Lilly Pulitzer, and Show me your Mumu. How cute is this for a traveling outfit. This for a night out with friends. And this going out shirt.

For everything else you can check me out on my twitter, tumblr, or pinterest.

The Winter Coat Low-down

Being from the south I never had to have a winter coat. I always went to New York City in march, so I always had a pea coat on hand, but that in no way prepared me for the intense Michigan Winters. From December to March I live in my parka. As much hate as the parka is for being "basic", it is the most comfortable thing that will keep you warm getting from point A to point B. These are some of my other top winter coat picks.

October 2014 Favorites

Taylor Swift's new album came out this month so October will defiantly qualify as top month is year. I went blonde this month which was a crazy change. I like it temporally, but I will probably be going brunette back soon.

Also, this month I got to enjoy all of the fall things Michigan has to offer. I went to my first cider mill and drank my body weight in apple cider. I went to all the MSU tailgates, and I even got to run the MSU vs UofM game day ball from Ann Arbor to East Lansing. Here is what got me through the month:

Crest White Strips// twice a year I use these things. They work wonders. All you need is one box and you are good to go for 6 months.

Suave Dry Shampoo With Keratin// I jumped on the dry shampoo bandwagon. People have been raving about dry shampoo and I never understood it until now. I have a class right after workouts so I need to get ready at lightning speed, and this is amazing. I have oily hair so I was spectacle but I love this stuff.

Fair Isle Sweaters// Just when you think you can not think of anything better than a sweatshirt, the Fair Isle Sweater hits. You can look put together all while staying cozy.

Plaid Wool Cap// I am a chronic hat wearer to morning classes. How often is too often to wear a vineyard vines hat to class, you may ask? The answer is the limit does not exist. If I can wear a hat and still look fallish then thats a win.

Donut-Shop Coffee//Holy yum. This might be the replacement to ice coffee. My coffee maker broke so I have been using the Keurig maker and I had to try out some new options. This coffee is amazing. Its kind of sweet and thick.
'
Bean Boots// Standard bean boots love post. I love that these are water proof. I can not help but walk through puddles when I wear these. They keep your feet warm and are cute.

Taylor Swift 1989// Oh. My. Gosh. Just when you want to hate tswift 1989 comes out. This album speaks my soul and I do not care who knows it.

Live Every Hour Like Its Happy Hour

I take the happy hour quote and apply that to the seasons. If you don't dress for winter, it can not be winter, right?  I never dreaded winter, but now that I up north and the winters are soul crushing. I like to pretend that it will be nice year round.

Shout out to Lilly for giving me a sneak preview to their 2014 resort collection here are some of my favorites:
Allie Packable Quilted Vest
Allie Packable Quilted Vest: There are vest, and then there is THIS vest. I love how this year Lilly went with jewel tones. And the fact that it is Spartan Green does not make me like it any less;-) Plus it also fold into a little pouch so you can take it on vacation.

Devina Lace Tunic Dress
Devina Lace Tunic Dress: This dress is so fun. I love the scallops, the bell sleeves, and the color. Throw on some tights and its perfect for a holiday party, or wear it plain and you are ready for the beach.
Linen Beach Pant
Linen Beach Pant: The linen beach pant is here to stay. I feel like these are an upgrade to sweat pants (wait, lilly can you make sweat pants?) So cute for going to the beach or just lounging around.

4 Worth-it Tips Learned From Marathon Training

Remember when I was so excited to run a marathon on my birthday, and how that would be such a great way to start out the year? (Check it out here) Three weeks before the marathon I found out that I had to be out of town causing me not to be able to run the marathon. I was kind of heart broken because I had put in all of that time training and I would not even be able to participate in the race. At the same time I was kind of relieved that I could just stop the running.

It was kind of weight off of my shoulder that I did not think I had time to train for a marathon for the next couple of years, or so I thought. It ended up that an opportunity came up, and marathon training 2.0 is in full force. I learned a lot from the first round of training, that I will for sure be bring with me in the second round.

Speed> Distance: I know marathons are suppose to be slower, but I was not running very fast in any of my runs. I wish I would have focused more on the speed rather than just distance.

Diet: I think I was at my heaviest in my life while I was marathon training. Running long distance actually does not help with weight loss, it is the HITT workouts that help with that. While I was training I thought I could get away with eating whatever I wanted, and I was clearly wrong.

Not Missing Workouts: My summer schedule was crazy busy, so instead of working out in the morning I would just skip and make it up later in the week. This ended up that I would just skip the small runs when again I should have been working on speed.

Circuit Training: This goes along with not missing workouts, I would always skip circuit training, and that is something I will be focusing on.

Favorite Apps

I
I hate to say this, but my phone is my lifeline. I have no clue what I would do without it. It is constantly right by my side and I am always connected. I hate to even admit that. Yes, phones can add a little stress to everyday life, but at the same time you have all the information you could ever possibly need at your finger tips. Here are my favorite apps that make me completely addicted.

Dunkin'// True life I am addicted to Dunkin' Doughnuts. This apps has so many coupons and it just fuels my addiction

Spotify// I have switch computers 3 times in the past year. I kind of forgot about Spotify until just recently. I have no clue how I lived without it. All the music you could possibly want is at your finger tips. I absolutely love the playlist that it has. My personal favorite are acoustic morning, Hitt workout, and soothing symphonics.

College Prep// What is better than your favorite blog? Your favorite blog's app.

Pinterest// I love Pinterest and it is even that much better on the app. It takes lazy Sundays to a whole new level.

Moleskine// This is the best note taking app. You can write, drawl, and highlight. It is so convenient when you just need to jot something down.

PumpUp// I talked about this before, and this app gives you so many workout ideas for any skill level.

MapMyRun// This app was a god sent during marathon training. All you have to do is carry it on you and it tracks how far you have gone, how fast you are going, and your calorie loss.

VSCOcam// This is the best photo editor on the planet. I swear by this app. It is kind of hard to figure out but once you do its perfect.
